DIANA
Diana é a deusa
No final do século XX,

There’s no doubt that, in her origin, Diana was a goddess worshipped by the peoples who lived in the forests of the Italian Peninsula. And she was worshipped there before the foundation of Rome.
She’s the patron goddess of virgins, but she’s not opposed to those who leave their virginity. On the contrary: she even protects women in childbirth.
In the 6th century BC, the inhabitants of the Greek colonies of the southern Italian Peninsula began to have contact with Diana’s worship. And they syncretized her with the goddess Artemis.
This syncretism was very weak at first, but it became much more intense about 300 years later. And Greek myths about Artemis were remade in Rome replacing her by Diana.
Probably the syncretism wasn’t accepted at first because the 2 goddesses were imagined with very different personalities. Diana is a goddess originally peaceful and focused on protecting and Artemis is an angry and violent goddess usually with short patience.
Despite her association with Artemis, Diana retained some of her original features.
In some cases, a priest of this goddess had the right to be immune to slavery. But the replacement for murder was also allowed in this charge. Thus, this charge was typically occupied by an escaped slave. And someday that person ended up being murdered by another escaped slave, who also wanted to take the charge for him in order to be immunized against slavery. And so it continued.
In some cases, the priest of Diana earned an obligation to take care of a doe for the rest of the life. This was the animal that symbolized this goddess directly.
Horses, on the other hand, could not get close to the places where the goddess was worshipped. It’s because, according to a legend, one of her main worshippers died after falling from his carriage because of the horses which were pulling it.
At the end of the 20th century, Diana’s worship rose again in some specific groups of Stregheria. Especially at the Arician Tradition, founded by Raven Grimassi.

Stregheria.

Mercury was originally the god of wheat trade, worshipped by the Etruscans.
His worship arrived at Rome at some point in the 2nd half of the 6th century BC. And it got there probably brought by Etruscan merchants who used to go to Rome for selling their goods. And in Rome he began to be seen as the god of trade in general.
So, not long after, Roman coins began to be made with Mercury’s head on them.
Syncretized with the Greek god Hermes, Mercury now has several of his features. And the most obvious seems to be the Roman idea that Mercury is Jupiter’s messenger, because Hermes is Zeus’ messenger.
Other features that were copied had some adaptation. For example, Hermes is the god who protects travelers on the ways where they walk, then Mercury came to be seen as the god of the crossroads (the place where 2 ways touch each other). And as Hermes is a god who often goes in the world of the dead, so Mercury came to be seen as the god who leads the spirits of dead people to there.
Most of the legends about Mercury are remakes of the Greek myths about Hermes. But there are also some rare Roman legends about Mercury without any relation with Hermes.

Mercurio era in origine
in generale.
Altre caratteristiche
